Over the past few months, Mike and I started discussing buying another travel trailer or RV of some kind. We missed our adventures and wanted to get back on the road again.
We started researching another fiberglass travel trailer, called the Escape. The Escape is like the Casita we previously had, but a bit bigger and from Escape Trailer Industries based out of Canada. The company who makes these trailers offers a unique 21-foot fifth wheel. We got more into it as we read online and watched YouTube videos about the trailer. So, in January, we decided to take a road trip to Chilliwack, British Columbia, to take a closer look.
Visiting Vancouver, BC
While we were in Canada, we stayed the night in downtown Vancouver. We had a great time! We ate delicious sushi, tried Canada’s famous Tim Horton’s donuts and walked all around downtown. The hotel we stayed at had a heated Japanese toilet. Why in the world don’t we have these wonderful toilets in the U.S.?
The Escape Fifth Wheel Fiberglass Trailer
The trailer is very nice in person. It appears to be high quality and we really like the larger refrigerator and the separate queen bed space in the loft. I read tons of comments about how easy and stable this trailer is for towing. The longevity of the fiberglass adds to the overall appeal.
Decisions, Decisions
There wasn’t much we didn’t like, but there is one big problem. We would have to trade out our Honda Ridgeline for a heavier duty truck that could pull the greater weight of the fifth wheel trailer. The bummer about that is that we almost have the Ridgeline paid off and it would be easier financially to keep the truck that we currently own. As we thought about it more, we decided it might not be a best fit for us, but we’re still mulling it over.
We are also researching the 16-foot Bambi Airstream trailers. The 16-foot airstream could be pulled by our Ridgeline and they are stylish and functional trailers, both inside and out.
We also gave some thought to re-purchasing another Casita travel trailer. Going through all the research again, we were reminded about why we initially chose the Casita. It’s tough to pass up such an affordable trailer, with the lesser weight for pulling, and the comfort of knowing the trailers are made to last. Wouldn’t that be something if we bought another one!?
So, as we sit in our house, under quarantine during the Covid-19 pandemic, we’re dreaming about our future possibilities with adventure and travel. For now, we’re staying home, trying to avoid the virus and not making any major purchases. Hopefully, a new exciting chapter will be on the horizon.
Life under quarantine at the Hoeftland household
What have we been up to? Not much, ha! We have settled into enjoying simple pleasures for now.
We both shifted to temporarily working from home, because of the pandemic. After work, we usually sit out back in the sunshine, sometimes with drinks. We watch movies, read, and play with our neighbor’s cat, Froggy.
We are both safe and well, thus far, and hope to stay out of harm’s way. We’ve hung onto our jobs so far, but our companies have experienced big layoffs.
We hope things are going ok for you and your loved ones. I would love to hear how you’re doing. Let me know in the comments or shoot me an email.
Have a nice day.
Kristin

Hello. No, we don’t have the Casita. We sold it when we moved to Bend, for a few different reasons. We are considering getting another Casita or something like it.

Hi there, we went on that trip before the pandemic was declared. We have been staying away from other people since March, staying at home most of the time.
